Emily Woods (born 1967) is a minor character in The IT Files. An Assistant Commissioner with the London Metropolitan Police Service, Emily is the head of Specialist Crime & Operations.
Biography[]
Emily was born in Guildford, UK, the older of two sisters. As a child Emily was the envy of several girls due to her red hair and blue eyes but it wasn't until her late teens that Emily really became comfortable with it, instead wanting to become a police woman. In her childhood Emily frequently took opportunities to try and meet female officers but for quite a while saw how male-driven the UK police force was. Luckily by the time Emily had finished school and moved to London to work for the Metropolitan Police Service things had evened out a bit, though there were less than ten women in high ranks within the service.
One of Emily's bigger cases as a young constable was helping protect Michael Bradford, who'd been charged with serious sexual misconduct. Michael was ultimately cleared and both he and Emily had become close during the case, leading to them sleeping together after a celebration at him getting off. Emily became pregnant due to the event but Michael elected to leave her, not interested in commitment but willing to pay for support. Spurred to prove just how capable she was, Emily gave birth to Evie Woods and raised her while working to rise up in the ranks of Scotland Yard. Michael was true to his word and paid for support, years later even returning to London and helping repair the gap between him and Emily. Emily wasn't entirely keen on Michael entering Evie's life but allowed it, going so far as to form a quasi-friendship with him over the years that followed. Emily's career with the MPS eventually blossomed at the turn of the millennium, seeing her rise to to the rank of Assistant Commissioner in 2008. Emily was put in charge of the Specialist Crime & Operations directorate, Ulrika Stendahl working as her aide while Shiori Yoshida became her Deputy.
