Sapthorn is a rare plant, indigenous to Europe and Germany in particular. A nearly-white vine that produces red thorns, Sapthorn is considered toxic and popular in occult circles as well as some drug trades.
History[]
The first Sapthorns were found in the Bavarian Forest, in a portion believed to be tied to the Hercynian Forest. Later some Sapthorns would be discovered in the Black Forest, lending credence to the idea that the Sapthorn is a remnant of the fabled forest. The Sapthorn, for a time, became a symbol of Bavarian nobility, though it was later chosen to be a symbol of German schools of the arcane. While Sapthorn was been successfully transplanted into some other parts of Europe, such as Luxemburg and Sturmhaven, it remains primarily a German plant.
Use[]
While any magical properties of the Sapthorn have not been proven the oil secreted from the thorns when the plant is in a period of bloom have been shown to have subtle hallucinogenic properties, though it requires frequent ingestion to produce any effect. Sapthorn Oil is often praised by fringe occult groups as a fuel source for supposed magical flames. Some believe it to be a tool for Hypnosis, making those who ingest its oil more susceptible to being hypnotized.
